Deborah Tesser has spent over 20 years working either as or consulting with lawyers. Whether it was practicing as a transactional attorney with an AmLaw 100 firm, representing institutional lenders as part of a mid-sized real estate boutique, or counseling clients as a small town solo, she has experienced, first-hand, the ins and outs of private practice.
Deb leveraged that deep knowledge of legal culture and dynamics when working as a legal recruiter and expanded her skill set by working with a legal consultancy focused on business development and marketing strategies for internationally recognized IP law firms. She then formed her own consultancy, Today’s Practice, where she became a strategic alliance partner and certified consultant for numerous legal tech companies, including Zola Media. Now, she has found her calling as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Chief Zolaficionado.
When she not working on all things Zola, Deb enjoys travelling, spending time with her family and keeping Ginger, her mini goldendoodle out of trouble.
What are some of achievements you’re most proud of?
Professionally, I’ve been very fortunate to maintain and cultivate relationships over the years, both as mentor and mentee. I’ve found that some of the most successful people are the most generous with their time and enjoy helping others succeed. As corny as it sounds, I’m extremely proud that through networking, cultivating professional relationships and believing in myself, I’m doing what I love to do. Personally, I have raised two awesome, thoughtful kids who make me proud every day.
Do you participate in any charitable work? If so, why is it important to you?
I’ve been an active member of my synagogue and have sat on the board, was instrumental in launching the annual fundraising event and am currently working on a promotional video project. It’s important to me to be part of a community that comes together to support one another in joy and in need.
What motivates you?
That’s a hard one. I’m a pretty passionate person. At one extreme, I’m motivated by social justice and injustices in our country and globally. But I get motivated by listening to music with lyrics that resonate and a great beat (love Michael Franti & Spearhead).
Who is your role model?
The Notorious RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsburg). Talk about an inspiring woman in the law….
Describe yourself in 3 adjectives?
Enthusiastic. Inquisitive. Decisive.
What are some of your major goals in life?
I want to create lasting bonds and relationship. Make a difference in the world. Travel. Joy. Contentment.
